The core of the program is a 23-day in-person experience in the United States, where participants engage in hands-on STEM workshops, collaborative projects, leadership training, and cultural exchange activities. The program is hosted primarily at Virginia Tech, with additional programming in Washington, D.C.

Eligibility Criteria
To be considered for the TechGirls Exchange Program 2026, applicants must meet all of the following requirements:
- Be between 15 and 17 years old at the start of the exchange on July 11, 2026
- Be born on or between July 12, 2008, and July 11, 2011
- Be a citizen and current resident of a participating country or territory
- Have demonstrated advanced skills and a strong interest in STEM subjects through academic performance, extracurricular activities, or personal projects
- Intend to pursue higher education and/or a career in STEM, especially technology-related fields
- Possess strong English language skills (advanced intermediate level)
- Exhibit maturity, flexibility, leadership potential, and open-mindedness
- Be enrolled in secondary school and return to at least one additional semester of school after completing the program
- Be willing and committed to completing a community-based STEM project upon returning home
- Have limited or no prior experience in the United States (preference given)
Applicants are not eligible if they have participated in another U.S. Department of State Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs (ECA) exchange program in the United States within the last three years.

The TechGirls Exchange Program is fully funded, ensuring that financial constraints do not limit participation. The program covers:
- U.S. visa application fees for international participants
- Roundtrip international airfare from the participant’s home country to the United States
- Domestic travel within the home country (as applicable)
- Housing accommodations, including:
- Double-occupancy dormitories at Virginia Tech
- Double-occupancy hotel accommodations in Washington, D.C.
- All meals (breakfast, lunch, and dinner) during the program
- Local transportation to all program-related events
- Educational, cultural, and leadership activities
- Emergency health insurance for the duration of the program
