The scholarship supports Bachelor’s, Master’s, and PhD studies at state or state-recognized universities across Germany.
Programme Description
The Heinrich Böll Foundation, Germany’s Green political foundation, supports talented students under its “Promoting Talent” initiative. Each year, the foundation funds around 1,450 undergraduate and postgraduate students and 200 doctoral candidates from all academic disciplines and types of higher education institutions.
Scholarship recipients are regarded as future leaders and changemakers, prepared to take responsibility and promote the foundation’s core values globally—ecology and sustainability, democracy and human rights, self-determination, and justice.
Up to 250 new scholars are admitted into the programme every year.

Academic Requirements
- Admission to a full-time Master’s degree at a state or state-recognized German university
- Funding for Bachelor’s degrees is available only to German students or international students who completed secondary education in Germany (Bildungsinländer)
- Demonstrated German language proficiency (B2 level or DSH-2)
Duration of Funding
Funding generally covers the standard period of study, with the possibility of a one-semester extension upon application.
