Applications are now officially open for the 2026/2027 Commonwealth Distance Learning Master’s Scholarships, a prestigious fully funded opportunity designed to support talented students from developing Commonwealth countries. This scholarship enables recipients to pursue a UK Master’s degree entirely online, without the need to relocate, making it ideal for professionals who wish to continue working or remain in their home countries while studying.
The Commonwealth Distance Learning Scholarship is one of three Master’s-level programmes administered under the Commonwealth Scholarships framework and focuses strongly on international development, capacity building, and leadership.
About the Commonwealth Distance Learning Programme
The Commonwealth Distance Learning Scholarship is funded by the UK government and administered by the Commonwealth Scholarship Commission in the UK (CSC). The programme operates within the broader Commonwealth Scholarship and Fellowship Plan (CSFP), reflecting the UK’s long-standing commitment to strengthening education, skills development, and sustainable growth across Commonwealth nations.
This scholarship is specifically designed for students who may not have access to high-quality postgraduate education locally and who would benefit from UK academic expertise through flexible, distance-based learning.
Who the Scholarship Is For (Intended Beneficiaries)
The scholarship targets high-achieving postgraduate candidates from least developed, low-income, and middle-income Commonwealth countries, including fragile and conflict-affected states. It is particularly suitable for applicants who:
- Need to remain in their home country due to professional, family, or community commitments
- Wish to gain advanced training that is not available locally
- Demonstrate strong academic ability and leadership potential
- Are committed to contributing to the social, economic, or institutional development of their home country after completing their studies
The programme strongly values candidates whose studies align with development priorities and who can apply their knowledge to create meaningful impact at home.
Duration of the Award
The Commonwealth Distance Learning Scholarship supports part-time Master’s programmes with a flexible structure. Due to the modular nature of distance learning courses, the total duration of study can be up to six years, depending on the programme and pace of study.
Funding is provided on an ongoing basis, subject to satisfactory academic progress.
