Applications Open: 2026 West Africa Midwifery Leadership Journey (Fully Funded)

A Transformational Leadership Program for Women Advancing Maternal & Newborn Health in West Africa

Applications are now officially open for the 2026 West Africa Midwifery Leadership Journey, a prestigious fully funded, 12-month leadership fellowship–style program designed to support mid- to senior-career women who are shaping the future of midwifery and maternal and newborn health across Nigeria, Ghana, Senegal, and Burkina Faso.

This highly selective program goes beyond traditional training. It is a leadership journey that equips experienced midwives with the skills, confidence, networks, and strategic vision needed to drive systems-level change in healthcare, policy, education, and community practice throughout West Africa.

With maternal and newborn health remaining a critical public health priority in the region, this program invests directly in women leaders who are already making an impact—and empowers them to scale that impact sustainably.

About the West Africa Midwifery Leadership Journey

The West Africa Midwifery Leadership Journey is built for practicing midwives, educators, advocates, program managers, and health leaders who are ready to step into higher levels of influence and responsibility. Rather than focusing solely on technical skills, the program emphasizes leadership development, self-reflection, collaboration, and real-world impact.

Over the course of 12 months, selected fellows participate in immersive learning experiences, personalized coaching, and cross-country collaboration. The program blends in-person residencies with virtual learning and peer engagement, allowing participants to grow while continuing their professional roles.

At the end of the journey, fellows join a growing community of Global Fellows, strengthening regional and global leadership networks in midwifery and maternal health.
