About the Fellowship

The Oskar Morgenstern Fellowship is a highly competitive, one-year, fully online fellowship designed for graduate students, scholars, and practitioners from diverse academic backgrounds who have an interest in political economy and emerging technologies, particularly artificial intelligence.

The fellowship seeks to deepen participants’ understanding of how the Austrian, Virginia, and Bloomington schools of political economy approach key questions surrounding institutions, governance, progress, epistemology, the theory of the mind, and the philosophy of science. These perspectives provide critical tools for evaluating both the promises and limitations of artificial intelligence and other emerging technologies.

Throughout the academic year, Oskar Morgenstern Fellows convene for three intensive weekends of online, seminar-style colloquia, engaging in in-depth discussions and collaborative learning. In addition to the academic experience, fellows become part of a vibrant network of Mercatus Center students, alumni, and scholars who are actively shaping and contributing to cutting-edge research in contemporary political economy.
