Applications are now officially open for the 2026 Heroes of Tomorrow: UN SDG Action Awards Programme, a prestigious global initiative designed to recognize, support, and elevate young changemakers who are making real impact in advancing the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
About the Programme
The Heroes of Tomorrow are individuals and initiatives taking bold, transformative action to solve some of the world’s most pressing challenges. Found in every corner of the world, they often work quietly and tirelessly—overcoming significant barriers—to build a future that is more sustainable, inclusive, just, and peaceful.
Their stories serve as powerful reminders that progress begins with people, and that even the smallest actions can ignite meaningful change. These are the individuals shaping a better tomorrow.
In 2026, the UN SDG Action Campaign will bring together nine outstanding finalists from across the globe. These finalists will participate in an exclusive programme that includes intensive coaching, mentorship, and capacity-building sessions.
The programme will culminate in the Heroes of Tomorrow: UN SDG Action Awards Ceremony, where winners will be officially announced.

Awards Ceremony in Rome
The grand awards ceremony will take place on Thursday, 29 October 2026, in the historic city of Rome, Italy.
This global event will be broadcast to international audiences through platforms such as UN WebTV and RAI (Italy’s national broadcaster), offering finalists and winners unparalleled global exposure.
Eligibility Criteria
To be considered for the programme, applicants must meet the following requirements:
- Demonstrate proven and measurable impact achieved within the past three years
- Ensure their initiative aligns with one of the programme’s three award categories
- Submit initiatives that are already implemented and producing results (concept-stage ideas are not eligible)
- Previous finalists or winners of the awards are not eligible to apply again
- Initiatives led by United Nations entities are only eligible for an Honourable Mention, not the main awards
Benefits of the Programme
Finalists and winners of the Heroes of Tomorrow Awards will receive a range of valuable benefits, including:
1. Fully Funded Trip to Italy
One representative from each selected finalist initiative will be invited to travel to Rome, with all expenses—including flights, accommodation, and participation costs—covered by the UN SDG Action Campaign.
2. Global Recognition and Visibility
Participants will gain international exposure through global media platforms, including UN communication channels and RAI, as well as other major media outlets.
3. Exclusive Coaching and Capacity Building
