Applications are now open for the prestigious Chatham House Mo Ibrahim Foundation Academy Fellowship 2026/2027, a fully funded opportunity designed to support and empower young, emerging African leaders who are passionate about driving change across the continent and beyond.
This highly competitive fellowship is a collaborative initiative between Chatham House and the Mo Ibrahim Foundation, aimed at strengthening leadership capacity in Africa. It provides outstanding individuals at the early to mid-stage of their careers with the unique opportunity to spend ten months in London, United Kingdom, conducting in-depth research and engaging with global policy experts.
Fellows will work on an independent research project of their choice, aligned with their professional interests and expertise. In addition to research, participants will be actively involved in the core activities of Chatham House, gaining valuable exposure to international policy discussions and contributing to impactful global conversations.

Fellowship Overview
The programme runs from October 2026 to July 2027, during which fellows will be based primarily at Chatham House in London, with flexible hybrid working arrangements available. Throughout the fellowship, participants will:

Eligibility Criteria
Citizenship
- Open to citizens of any African country
- Applicants with dual nationality (including at least one African country) are also eligible
Education
- Must hold a completed Bachelor’s degree (BA) or equivalent
- Demonstrated experience in research and analytical work
Career Stage
- Applicants should be at the early to mid-stage of their careers
- Candidates may come from sectors such as:
- Academia
- Non-governmental organizations (NGOs)
- Business and private sector
- Government institutions
- Civil society organizations
- Media and communications
- Strong interest and knowledge in international affairs, public policy, and their chosen research field is essential
- Applicants should also demonstrate alignment with Chatham House’s mission and research focus

Benefits and Funding
This is a fully funded fellowship designed to remove financial barriers and allow fellows to focus entirely on their professional development and research.
Fellows will receive:
- A monthly stipend of £2,565 to cover living expenses in London, including accommodation, food, utilities, and transportation
In addition, the programme covers:
- Relocation costs, including travel to and from the UK
- Visa sponsorship (T5: Temporary Work – Government Authorised Exchange)
- Accommodation support upon arrival
- UK Immigration Health Surcharge (excluding dental, optical care, and prescriptions)
- Research-related expenses, including fieldwork, events, outreach, and publications
